I’m a Visiting Research Intern attached to the Digital Humanities and Journalism (HuJo) group at INSIGHT Centre (formerly DERI) at National University of Ireland – Galway, working on problems related to Event Identification from Twitter data. I’m also a full time Computer Science PhD student at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio attached to the Semantic Web Lab at Kno.e.sis Center. I’m originally from Sri Lanka, a small island in Indian ocean located south to India. I completed my bachelors in Information Technology degree at the Faculty of Information Technology – University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. After completing my bachelors, I worked at CodeGen International Pvt. Ltd. as a Software Engineer nearly two years where I contributed to building Travel Software solutions to leading travel operators in Canada, Mexico and Europe. Then I decided to pursue higher education and joined Wright State University. I started my PhD in 2011 when I moved to USA and now I’m finishing my third year as a PhD student. The focus of my PhD work is on Event Related Social Data Analysis and Mining.
I’m delighted to be a part of INSIGHT’s HuJo group as they work on interesting research problems that have an impact on society in general. In my leisure time, I like to play Cricket and listen to music. You are welcome to visit my personal Web page if you want to find out more about the projects that I work on at Kno.e.sis Center.
